Mommy Is A Rock Star

Just coming off a weeks-long illness herself, Amy has emerged as even more of a superwoman than ever. I’ve been really sick this week and so pretty much everything has fallen to her – taking care of the kids, making dinner, school lunches, the madness that is Declan and Elsie when they’re in the zone

If you could’ve seen her, you’d be smiling and shaking your head in disbelief. She summoned the strength and patience and fun to keep the place rolling – and doing so with a smile in her voice to make the kids think everything was normal and have a great time.

And next week will be round two, as I’m out of town Monday through Friday. Everyone send positive vibes her way next week – and if you’re close, stop by and lend a hand!

Thank you, babe, for being a rock star.

We're Back Online...

Okay, okay, I’m sorry. It’s been a while – things have been hectic.

Quick update:

Kaleigh was home for a long time over her break and we had a lovely Christmas with everyone together. Funny thing, on the morning of Christmas Eve I called Nana while playing with the kids outside. She said Papa was outside, too – but under a very different circumstances. We agreed to swap photos taken right then.

Here’s VA:

Here’s VT:

Starting on NYE, we had a great visit in Vermont, though it was only 3/5 as great as it should have been. The night before, Elise came down with yet another ear infection and couldn’t fly, so she and Ames stayed home while Kaleigh, Declan and I went up.

It was 23 below zero when we landed in Burlington. But still we had a blast – playing with the family, snowboarding, hanging with friends. Some pics from my dying camera phone:

You can see at the end what I mean by dying…

It was so awesome to see Declan having so much fun with the cousins – totally dove right into the dynamic and had the time of his life. He is, by the way, the only kid I’ve ever met who prefers shoveling snow over sledding. I mean, he had fun sledding – but he loved shoveling (and throwing the shoveled snow on me). Got in a good day on the mountain with Kaleigh and the Whits and had a fun pizza party with the Beaulieus and Suskins.

Since then we’ve been settling back into work and school – and dealing with far too many illnesses. Seems Declan, Elsie and Amy have been trading off the funk. Everyone just needs a break.

Kaleigh headed back to school and started classes this week. They seem much more interesting and less oppressive than last semester – whew. Horrifyingly, another murder on campus. Just makes me so sad and angry – can’t my little girl just go to college and not worry about that stuff?

But let's end with good news:

WELCOME PRESIDENT OBAMA.
